General’s Log, Hair Date 78331.7:

As I near the quarter-mark of my current mission, I encounter an event unique only to our precious planet—an arcane sequential phenomenon known to Earth’s inhabitants as Daylight Savings Time. Twice per Earth year, and without so much as a subspace alert, entire regions engage in a synchronized temporal displacement. In the spring, they propel themselves an hour into the future; in the autumn, they slip an hour into the past. It is a curious ritual, observed briefly, but impactful in its simplicity.

This latest time-jump, a retreat to the past, offers a boon to weary travelers: an additional hour to rest and recuperate, critical to the restoration of vital power sources—especially the overtaxed muscle units engaged in the constant propulsion of this journey.

Yet, with the seasonal shift in the Earth’s orbital axis, our sector of Memphis Prime grows distant from its primary star. The days shrink, and a veil of near-perpetual night envelops the landscape, requiring activation of my photoreceptors’ Reactionary Object Displacement Sequence, or RODS mode. While far less nuanced than the Color Oriented Nano Excretion Sequence, or CONES, RODS compensates for its lack of color precision with heightened environmental awareness, crucial for survival here.

Memphis Prime’s infrastructure—particularly its wormhole network—was not built to Federation standards. Cracks, pits, and irregularities abound, posing considerable hazards—especially in the absence of light. Any miscalculation could send my Macroblade-110 3W into a catastrophic flat spin, leading to a death…or a scraped knee. For now, RODS mode has proven effective in navigating the treacherous terrain, its low-light capabilities are my constant guide through this seemingly endless night.
